Matte vs. Stainless Steel |
|
I'm a bit "challenged" when it comes to gun finishes. Thinking of getting a UC9 and quite frankly I like the black matte. But isn't SS suppose to be better? And in what way? Is it perspiration and wear & tear? And for that matter, where does nickle stand in this regard? I know the UC9 isn't avaiable in nickle but the T380 and CC are. Would appreciate a quick lesson in Finish101.
Thanks

There are a lot of different opinions on this. The black matte finish on the UC9 isn't very attractive, IMO, but it is highly serviceable. I have the black matte model. Stainless is supposed to be a bit easier to maintain. Nickel is the one that can be problematic. Certain solvent will cause a nickel finish to peel and/or flake.
I would go with matte or stainless myself.

Purchased the UC9 (matte) at a gun show. Rami 2075s were nowhere to be found and the limited selections of SR9s were cost prohibitive. I'm very pleased with the Bersa. I had read that they were perfect right out of the box and this has been true with mine. 310 rds thus far and not even a glimmer of a problem, unlike my T380CC, which took some coaxing and patience and a "breaking-in" period (733 through it now and it has proven itself worthy of carry). I plan to carry the UC9 if the holster I ordered ever arrives.
As range report, I am by no means a good shot (but getting better) and I am accurate at 7 yards with both guns and at 10 yards the UC9 produces 8" groupings and I am confident could do better and at longer distances with a better shooter.
I am very happy with the UC9 and would recommend it to both the experienced shooter as well as to those new to handguns.

The UC9 is a great handgun, especially at the price! But the CZs are really top-notch as far as quality goes. You can't go wrong with either one.

My understanding is that the Bersa UC9 in stainless has been discontinued, and is no longer available. Bummer!

Hmm... I'll be going to a gun show next month that comes around here only 3 times a year (so it's a big deal to me, though still 30 miles away). It is at this show that I got both my Bersas since local GS is obscenely high priced. I've got 2 guns in mind but if I find neither and see a UC9 in stainless I wonder if I should snatch it up? I've already got a UC9 in matte and don't need another so I wouldn't fire this one.
A future collectors item...?

The matte finish is duller, but doesn't show every little scratch. A polished stainless steel is a joy to the eyes, but shows EVERY little scratch.
That said, neither shows fingerprints like a blued gun. I like stainless.
