Custom Grips |
|
I've got an order in with Marschalgrips for a set in Zebrawood with fingercuts and thumbrest. I know I will like this feature as well as wood compared to the plastic stock grips but I'm starting to second guess myself about the thumbrest. Comfortable as it might be this isn't a target pistol. I sometimes pocket carry this gun and even though I've added a pinky-rest to one mag I use one without when carrying this way. My concern is that this thumbrest may add unacceptable thickness to the grips and, of course, switching out grips according to wardrobe isn't gonna happen. I guess we'll see.
This is my first foray into the world of custom grips and I probably need to get some loctite, preferably blue. Anybody know if WalMart sells this?

I don't know if WalMart sells it, they probably do. I usually get mine at the hardware store.
Let us know how the grips work out. I agree that if they are thicker or have a non-symetrical shape, it will make pocket carry problematic...
I am in the market for a pocket gun, now that I have sold my Bersa T380CC. The only two that I have on my 'possible' list right now are the Ruger LCP .380 and the Keltec P32 .32ACP. Anybody have any suggestions? I wish there were more options in pocket pistols! The Bersa T380CC is almost the perfect pocket pistol, but maybe just a tad on the large side for pocket carry on a routine basis.
Let me say right off the bat that I am not interested in ultra small, ultra light 9mm 'pocket' pistols like the Keltec PF9 or PF11 or the Rohrbaugh. Too much recoil, they are no fun to shoot, they feel like they're trying to jump out of my hand and followup shots are too slow and/or not accurate enough, fast enough.

I'm afraid that advanced technology isn't available in this Third World Home. I still buy disposable cameras from the drugstore. I've thought about buying one of them there newfangle cameras, but that would cut into my firearms budget.
Thanks for the hardware store tip. A visit there is much more desireable than a trip to Wally World.

The grips from Dennis Marschal arrived from Hungary today. Zebra wood with fingercuts and a thumbrest. Excellent craftsmanship and a perfect fit. No tweaking required. Thought I had a problem at first because when test (dry) firing the trigger wouldn't reset. I backed the screw out the right grip a tad and PRESTO, it worked. Going to the range tomorrow to make sure all is well before I carry this gun again. I did get some blue loctite but I'm gonna wait and see if the screws loosen first when firing before applying. The stock grips never needed tighting, even after 800 rds.
One day I'll skip buying a gun or firearm accessory and instead buy a digital camera. This is one of the (rare) times I wish I had one.

Congrats on the new grips, Oysterman! If you don't have a digital camera, you can make a cross-country trip to show them to us in person... Gandog is in Illinois, you can swing by and show them to me and Jed here in North Carolina.

Did you ever get any pictures of those grips?

Not digital ones. I have "conventional" pics of all my firearms but of course that does no good here. BTW, the grips have worked out great. Money well spent.
Guess I need to start digital camera hunting. I have a friend who can show me the rest (downloading, etc...). I just need to get the camera.
